We are delighted to announce that the British Society for Eighteenth-Century Studies Georgian Papers Programme Fellowship for 2021 has been awarded to Mary-Jannet Leith.
Mary-Jannet is a professional musician and is currently working on a PhD at the University of Southampton. Mary-Jannet’s GPP project is titled “Then I playd upon the Harpsichord”: The Role of Music in the Georgian Royal Household’. The fellowship project will explore the multi-faceted role music played in the lives of Georgian monarchs and their families, both in public and in private. The digitised materials from the Georgian Papers catalogue provide a wealth of evidence to form the basis for a music-focused micro-history, offering a variety of records from the period which reference music in domestic life, religious devotion, and royal ceremony.
